Views from the Pew – Brotherhood of St. Andrew

It is quite understandable at this time that many of us feel a sense of fear, uncertainty, concern and even hopelessness as we are bombarded with the daily news updates of the increasing infections, hospitalizations and deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic currently ravaging the world. We hear of friends, relatives and colleagues falling ill and we have to bear the agony of not being able to visit them, even as some make the transition from this life.
But in all this gloom, is there a spark of light? Is there an opportunity to salvage something good from all this apparent doom? Yes, there is. As a BSA, we have accepted the mandate of using the tools of PRAYER, STUDY and SERVICE to fulfill our motto of “bringing men and boys to Jesus Christ”.
The Good Lord has blessed us with the gift of technology which now allows us to communicate with one another anywhere in the world within a split second. There is the telephone along with a multiplicity of social media platforms facilitating voice, text and audio-video communication. We can now minister to just about anyone, anywhere, from the comfort of our homes. We have the opportunity to bring God’s cheer and hope to many, and much more quickly, simply by the touch of a few buttons. We can now gather information on the status of our brothers and sisters in need and seek assistance from the appropriate sources within minutes.
In this Easter season when we focus on God’s ultimate sacrifice of his beloved and only Son to save mankind, let us commit ourselves to reaching out to someone, especially the sick, lonely or needy. Let us listen for that voice asking: “Whom can I send?” and be ready to respond “Here I am, send me.”
Have a holy and blessed Easter.
