My brothers and sisters
Sundays in Men’s Month in our cure culminate today with the Feast of John the Baptist (June 24). John was a man sent from God to prepare Israel (people) for the time when the Messiah would make his appearance. John was to herald the coming of the true light (Jesus) and would touch the hearts of men and women who for so long had been in a world covered by spiritual darkness.
During the month, our males were reminded of their responsibilities as men, spouses, and fathers in sermons and in messages published in the weekly bulletin. These reflections allowed them to recall who and whose they are, and provided guidance for their daily lives. The scripture readings for the Feast of St. John the Baptist (Isaiah 40: 1-11; Acts 13: 14-26; Luke 1: 57-80) remind them that in a similar manner to how God called and sent John the Baptist, they (and women) are called and sent by God to give witness to the light and to touch the hearts of people who are living in spiritual darkness.
Woman was created for man… “a helper as his partner” (NRSV Gen. 3:18). We acknowledge that we women have a share in our partners’ lives, that we are called to give then support in their respective roles, and that like them we are called and sent to witness to the light and to touch the hearts of people who are living in spiritual darkness.
May God bless us (women and men) with mutual love, respect, and understanding.
