Who is a Father

Pops, Pa, Daddy, Dad, Father; Several names but one responsibility, “Fathering”. What is meant by the term “Fathering”?  There seem to be two main meanings of the word, both when you look in a dictionary and when you do a search on Google.

The first is that “fathering” means “bring into being, bring into the world, give life to”. In essence, to become the father of a child by making a woman pregnant.

The second meaning of the word “fathering” is “to be the father of…” as in “treat with the protective care associated with a father”. In essence, to be an active, and caring parent.

To make the decision to have a child and commit to being an active and caring parent means there are many responsibilities and sacrifices. Most of the time, “The Final Say” would be left open to the Father as he would be looked upon as the “Head of the Household”. Fathers are indeed the strength behind the upbringing of a child. “Honour your father and mother” – this is the first of the Ten Commandments that ends with a promise. And this is the promise: ‘so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth’.

Daughters adore their fathers and search for the same loving personality in the man they fall in love with. Sons are inspired by their fathers for the strength and support they receive in abundance from them and from father figures in their lives. They would always aspire to become someone as wonderful and humane as their fathers. Even grownups will revere their fathers for wisdom and advice that is in their best of interest. Hence it becomes our responsibility to pay them due respect and tribute on the occasion of Father’s Day.

Here’s a little poem for the fathers:

Who is a father?
Whether father on earth or the Father up above.

The comparison and inclusion is that of pure love.

From the way to the grave a father’s love compels you to be brave, caring, compassionate, and confident.

Fathers are tasked with a critical role, love and appreciation is the ultimate goal.
Similar to the father in heaven, our earthly fathers foster our growth mentally, emotionally in more ways than one.

Like the father up above, he continues to guide his son.
Children are a gift from God and fathers likewise; being godly should not spare the rod.
A true father is one who knows no limits!

A true father is one who not only cares for his own. A true father is one whose love is unconditional.
Father is a gift from our Heavenly Father above.

Leading the way, teaching us to pray a father’s duty never ceases. No matter the age your dad will always be your dad

Teaching you the way he pleases.
To all the fathers, whether young or old,

Keep writing your stories through your youth, as in them you mold Molding knowledge, strength courage.

Our fathers give us the fuel to flourish.
